Saving The Stranger| Short Story (Part One)

It was a warm spring day and outside the birds were singing. Jessica stood alone in the cold and dim underground station, after spending the Saturday morning shopping, in London, with her friends, and waited for the train to come. The world seemed to be at peace, but Jessica felt strange, as if something bad was about to happen. Something bad. She just couldn't think what it was.
Suddenly, just as the train was pulling in, Jessica saw a flicker of something black to the right side of her. She shrugged, and got onto the packed train.
Surprisingly, she found an empty seat beside a young man, of about twenty. He was wearing a navy blue cap and a black coat, which was strange as it was rather too warm to be wearing a coat. He was reading the Daily Mirror newspaper, and seemed to be very interested in it as he did not look up once. But as she looked at the young man, she was sure she had seen him before. Somehow, he did not look like one of those men that worked in London. He looked different from the other young men walking around the city, but Jessica could not put her finger on it. Maybe she had just seen someone similar? She sat back, and took out her Vogue magazine and started to read an article about a fashion show. The article was interesting, but Jessica could not concentrate on it. She just knew something was about to happen. What was it? And whatever was going to happen, how bad was it going to be?
Sighing, Jessica put her magazine away and started to play with her animal charm necklace, that was around her neck. Just then there was a loud scream and and a couple of shouts, as if people were quickly trying to get out of someone's way. Peering over the side of the seat, in the direction from the scream had come, Jessica saw a tall elderly man wearing all black. He was wearing a black mask, that covered his face. In his hand was a gun! He was walking slowly towards where she was sitting , past the cowering passengers who were shielding themselves with briefcases and shopping bags. His steady footsteps were the only sound in her ears. The time seemed to have stopped. Nobody moved or said a word.
He was now standing just behind the area Jessica was sitting in. He stopped, and looked about him, before walking a few more steps forwards.
He lifted the gun. The young man beside me still had not noticed. Not thinking, Jessica jumped up in front of the man beside her. Just as the gun went off!
