Interviewing My Friends #3: Sam

I interviewed my cousin Sam about School and University and he gave some great answers. I really enjoy doing these interviews, and hope to do some more in the future. I hope you enjoy and if you would like to be interviewed next or have any questions go ahead and leave them in the comments.

1) Were you ever bullied at school, when growing up?

No, I was never bullied. I had the occasional remark about my hair colour (Ginger), but I was fortunate enough to not get bullied.

2) What were your hobbies growing up?

I was always very sporty, I did all sorts of sport from football to swimming and even tennis. Eventually I settled on running. I also enjoyed video games.

3) What are your hobbies now?

Mainly running, but I love going to the gym and watching football. I also enjoy relaxing with friends and watching TV series.

4) What is one thing you liked and one thing you hated about school?

I liked the camaraderie of school growing up, I have a lot of great memories from the time I spent with friends. I did not hate anything and it is hard to think of anything that I particularly disliked. Probably exams, nobody likes them right.

5) What is one thing about schools, if anything, would you want to change?

I would increase the length of the school day slightly, but have more breaks during the day, I think students struggle doing lessons back to back for 8 hours.

6) Were your teachers helpful and encouraging? Did you have any bad teachers?

My teachers always delivered the content of the course well. I always believe that you can get the most out of teachers if you are proactive and ask them to help. They were encouraging but I was someone who needed little encouragement. I had some awful teachers of course. They lacked a connection with students and could not control disruptive behaviour.

7) What advice would you give your younger self if you could?

I would say, keep on doing what you are doing and focus on maintaining strong relationships around you.

8) Why did you decide to study what you are studying, at University?

I had never studied law, I wanted something fresh something new and if I am honest I was aware that the legal profession can offer some highly rewarding and well paid jobs.

9) Have you ever suffered with anxiety or depression?

No.

10) Any advice to school students, with homework and exams?

You simply have to be disciplined, limit distractions and get into healthy routine of eating, sleeping and working. I would just lock away your phone when working. But find a balance between work and play.

11) Any advice to anyone starting University?

Crucial to find a way to integrate yourself and meet new people. Normally this can be done by joining a society or a team. Do not be overwhelmed everyone wants to make new friends.

12) What do you do to relax?

I often go for a run. But sometimes just lie down and watch an episode of a series whilst eating good food.

13) Where do you see yourself in ten years?

Hmm.. hopefully I will have at least found a partner. Think maybe I will be living independently and working.
