A Week In Italy| Family Holiday,Summer 2017

This summer we spent a week in Italy, basing ourselves in a hotel in Padua. We arrived on Tuesday, 8th August, and left on the Sunday.

Tuesday:

We arrived by train, which went directly to Padua. It was a long train journey, and we spent the time playing on our phones, reading or sleeping. I also got to watch one of my favourite movies which is, "Fiddler On The Roof". It is about 3 hours long, which was a perfect length movie to watch on a long journey.

When we arrived we went straight to the hotel and rested for a bit, while we decided where to eat. We stayed in a hotel called Hotel Galileo, Best Western.

For dinner we went to a nearby Pizzeria, which we all enjoyed. Nobody can go to Italy without having at least one pizza while they are there.

Then after eating, we headed into the centre and walked around a bit before getting a taxi back to the hotel. We even got an ice cream while walking around. There were a lot of ice cream places everywhere

Wednesday:

We spent the day in Venice. I love Venice, and it was an amazingly lovely day. We arrived by train, and as soon as we arrived we took the boat taxi to travel down the canal.

There were people everywhere, as we walked around, but we all enjoyed our time there, even though we did have a few complaints among us that it was "too hot". We actually saw a couple of young kids crying over the heat, and one young child we saw was crying while her parents undressed her, because it was so hot.

For lunch we went to the Hard Rock Cafe. We all really enjoyed our meal, as well as looking at the T-shirts in the shop. I did not have any money to buy a t-shirt, but I did see a couple that I loved.

After eating we walked around a bit then we decided to go to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, which is an art museum. My dad, sister, and I are the only ones that went round and my brothers and mum stayed outside to enjoy the sun. We went last time we went to Venice too.

I love art museums, and seeing artwork in general, so I was defiantly excited to go round and see the paintings. Some I really liked, others made no sense, and some were just outright weird or well, just the usual nude paintings.

This painting, above, was one of my few top favourites.

And this painting, was one of the confusing ones, as it was called The Rose, and even though you can't see it very well, it looked like graph paper.

After leaving the museum we walked around a little and then we made our way back to the train station to get back to the hotel.

Thursday:

We went to Verona. We got there by train, again. We got around by train and bus a lot, because it was easier than anything else.

When we arrived we got on the bus into the centre and walked around a bit, before finding a restaurant to go to for lunch.

After lunch, we went on the hunt for the Juliet's Balcony (Romeo and Juliet) but somehow we got lost and headed away from where we wanted to go and ended up at some house which was called Juliet's House, or something. We all laughed about it after, and at least we got an hour long walk out of it.

We eventually did find the right place, and of course it was packed with people, all taking photos and posting notes on the entrance wall. We searched for the place for over an hour, and then spent less than five minutes there, but I still enjoyed it, and we got an Ice Cream afterwards.

Wall of love and friendship notes.

Friday:

We decided to stay local, in Padua. We just walked around and saw some of the sites. As well as stopping at a nice burger restaurant for lunch.

And that evening, my dad took my family and I to a really nice restaurant. It was really fancy. We had four courses; a fish ball to start with, then a small dish of prawn pasta, then our main meal, then dessert.

The restaurant was so fancy, that I felt a little out of place. And one of the waitresses, even arrived with a small box for me to put my handbag on. I was so speechless and shocked at this, for a moment, that I totally forgot to say thank you. And it became a bit of a joke, throughout the meal.

Saturday:

We were going to make a day trip to Florence but it turned out that would have been to expensive. So, we ended up just staying local again.

We started our day with having a smoothie, which were delicious. I love anything with berries, so of course I chose the Berry Smoothie option.

Then after that we headed into the town centre, and walked around before stopping for a simple lunch.

Then that evening we had a Chinese, in a really nice restaurant, and of course that was not enough for us, so after we finished our delicious meal we got an ice cream in the town.

Sunday:

Sunday was our last day in Italy. We left in the afternoon, but in the morning I joined my parents for a walk and we stopped off in a nice cafe for a drink and a light snack.

On our way back to the hotel we actually had a mishap, which was not at all funny at the time but we were able to laugh about it a little afterwards. So, we were tired and wanted to get back back to the hotel to get our bags, which we had left at the hotel reception, and get the to the station to get the train home. We decided to get the bus to the station. We got on Bus 10. Turned out the bus we got on was not the one we actually were meant to get on and we went in the wrong direction, and we had to call my sister and brothers, who were still at the hotel, to get all our bags, get a taxi and meet us at the train station. There was a lot of confusion and a bit of a panic on the bus, but everything turned out well in the end, and we got our train on time.

Now, we are all back home and I wish we were still walking the streets of Italy, and enjoying more pizza and the Italian sunshine.
