Aquaman (2018)|| My Ratings & Thoughts

So, here I am again with another movie review post.

Went to see Aquaman yesterday evening with my two brothers and my dad. And in short I loved it. I loved the cast. Also, I’m extreamly intrested to know how films like this were made and what went in to create it. The imagery and monsters and everything. I find the world of film very fascinating.

So, yeah this was another action movie and also, like most, also included a little romance.

A couple years ago I would never have watched movies like this. I remember turning down invites to see some movies and now I’m actually excited to go see them and keep making notes of new ones I hear about, like this one. I wanted to watch this since seeing Justice League. I guess the interest in these movies has grown because of my brothers and my dad but also because of the slight influence from one of my best friends-you know who you are!

So, after seeing Justice League I wrote a review and I mentioned that I didn't like Aquaman very much because he didn't really play a big role in the movie. Here is the link to that blog post, if you'd like to read it:

So, to start things off I really liked Aquaman in this movie. I think having a movie about a group of superheros together kind of made him seem so unimportant and boring but having a movie just about him really changed my opinion on him. He's great.

Anyway, moving on to what I thought of the movie....

This movie is the story of half-human and half-Atlantean Arthur, who is named Aquaman, and is about his journey binding both the world above the waters and under the waters and saving the world.
On this journey, that he is pulled into, he is forced to discover who he really is and who is was born to be....

I liked how Aquaman doesn't decide to be the hero, but is more encouraged into it and does it for who he loves and not to just be a hero. He doesn't see himself as anybody that special and doesn't really see himself as a hero, even though that is what he ends up being.

I loved the cast.
Aquaman is played by Jason Momoa. And I must say Jason Momoa is a perfect fit for the character. His hair and build I think really gives across how powerful, wild and strong he is and also that along with his personality and how he cares for those he loves. He makes a brilliant Aquaman and I can't think of anyone better to take that role.

Some of the other cast members are Amber Heard, who plays Mera, and Nicole Kidman, who plays Atlanna. One of my favourite actresses, Julie Andrews, also appears as the voice for Karathen. The rest of the cast is amazing too.

The young Arthurs, from Aquaman's flashbacks, are adorable too. The flashbacks, in the movie, really add to the character of Aquaman and helps the viewers understand him more and what he has gone through to become the man he grew up to be.

This movie is full of action and fighting, as you would have guessed, but there is also a little romance twisted into the story. The fighting scenes are the typical fights that are known in these sort of movies yet it was still very gripping and enjoyable to watch. I was always excitingly anxious to see what was going to happen and what Aquaman and his companions would do next to reach their goal in saving the world and finding the peace they all wanted to see back among their friends, family and all those that surrounded them.

My favourite scenes?
This is hard to answer without giving anything away. I don't want to ruin this for anyone who is planning to watch it, which you should. I am sure you'll love it if you like superhero and or action movies.
Anyway, back to the question...
There were so many scenes that I loved.
I really liked the fighting scenes, especially when Mera and Aquaman, were at sea in a boat and jumping from rooftop to rooftop. Any of the fighting scenes actually.
I really liked the beginning too, how Aquaman's parents met and how they fell in love.

I find it amusing in these sort of movies how the strangest things are looked at as if it is the most normal thing ever, like how two people could be fighting each other and the passers by have very little reaction to it like they see that happening regularly in their town.

My favourite thing about Aquaman is how caring he seems and also how he isn't prideful or big headed. He didn't think of himself as anything special and didn't think people would see anything good in him. He is surprised when people see him as a hero or look up to him because he doesn't feel he is a hero or anyone to be looked up to. He also has a funny, caring and laid back personality which makes it hard not to love him. I think in many ways he is a very relatable character.

There were a couple of holes that I feel weren't really explained or taken much detail in, and just overlooked, which is a shame but then if they went into everything then this movie would be so much longer. But, I feel some bits were not fully explained, which can make it seem less realistic in part.

I really find it fascinating how films like this were made, and love knowing what took place behind the scenes in the making of films in general. While watching this movie I was always thinking, or curious, how they did certain scenes and effects. I find the world of making films very interesting and would love to see for myself how it is all done.

The cast, scenes, effects...I loved everything.
The costumes were all bright and colourful and also helped bring out each character's personality. My favourite costume was Mera's dress but I really liked Atlanna's outfit at the start of the movie.

So, my ratings...

I rate the movie a 8/10.
It was a really good movie and I loved every moment of it.
I defiantly recommend it, if you like movies like this.
I really want to watch it again already.

The costumes and detail in the movie I would have to rate a 9/10.
I just love all the detail and work that is put into every area of this movie.
I think it's amazing and so creative.
The people who worked in writing, producing, and on make-up and costume are amazing.

I knew, before watching the movie, based on other similar-ish movies, that I was going to enjoy it but I didn't think I would think about it this much and fall in love with all the detail, costumes and in the character of Aquaman. I just love taking apart everything and looking into what made this movie the movie it is, that we see on the screen. All the work that was put into making it...

I have a whole different opinion on the character of Aquaman now, after not really like his character in Justice League. And, in fact, I really want to watch Justice League again and see how he was portrayed in that as I feel I have forgotten a great deal, even though I do still think he and many of the superheros were not really given much of a role in that movie.

Now, I really feel I should stop writing before I give away any spoilers from the movie.

A question to you: Do you want to watch this movie?
And if you have already seen it what did you rate it and what did you think of it...
I'd love to hear your ratings and thoughts!!
